It’s true that indigenous societies around the world have used sound in healing ceremonies, including drumming, clapping, singing, dancing, and pulsating since the beginning of time. It’s also true that decades-old studies and teachings show again and again how sound can transform a person’s brain and open them to a more wholehearted human experience.

 

It’s true because it’s not about the sound. It’s about deep listening. 

 

More simply, sound helps guide a meditation practice of deep listening to our inner wisdom and find a better understanding of self. Sound connects us to each other and most of all, ourselves in our crazy and often disconnected modern lives.

So how does sound & deep listening encourage our minds and bodies to relax and induce healing?

Sound gives our mind a place to focus so we can move into more meditative states – similar to a guided meditation, watching an engaging movie or listening to your favorite music. We are able to tune out the rest of the world, letting the sound take you to a deeper place of ease and relaxation. Then the vibrational qualities of sound can go to work, shifting your brainwave state and literally slowing things down. Through this deep listening, your brain moves from the fast-pace of normal waking consciousness to relaxed consciousness and finally to meditative and resting state where internal healing can occur.
